History

The Beginning

Gobbo Games emerged in 2008, born from the vision of Quinton Delpeche during his enrollment in the Game Developers Course at Train2Game in the United Kingdom. Joined shortly after by longtime friend Matthew Leach, the duo embarked on their first project, Soul Wars. Despite facing challenges of limited resources and personal setbacks, their dedication fueled their progress, albeit amidst balancing day jobs.

Back in South Africa

Following a hiatus due to personal circumstances in 2009, Quinton Delpeche resumed his pursuit of game development in South Africa. Despite shelving Soul Wars due to engine limitations, his determination remained unwavering.

The Birth of Re-Spawn

In 2010, Quinton dedicated a sabbatical month to develop the prototype for Re-Spawn, a project initially conceived during the Soul Wars era. Met with positive feedback upon release, Re-Spawn became the studio's primary focus, marking Matthew's return to the team.

Enter Kaboom Arena

Matthew's suggestion to focus on smaller projects led to the creation of Kaboom Arena, aimed at building Gobbo Games' reputation. With Karl Muller joining the team, the project gained momentum, set to launch via Steam Greenlight.

Ventures into The Colony 2174 and Riders of Asgard

Parallel to Kaboom Arena's development, Quinton explored real-time strategy (RTS) with The Colony 2174, which eventually morphed into a board game. Simultaneously, Riders of Asgard, crafted by Karl Muller, took shape, gaining traction on Steam Greenlight and releasing successfully in 2017.

Diversification into Gamification and Virtual Reality

Leveraging their gaming expertise, Gobbo Games ventured into consulting, offering gamification and virtual reality solutions to corporate clients. Recognizing synergies between gaming and enterprise development, Quinton Delpeche transitioned Gobbo Games into a full-time pursuit, catering to corporate clientele since 2018.

Rebirth of Re-Spawn Tournament

Following a hiatus, Gobbo Games revived Re-Spawn Tournament, transitioning to Unreal Engine and releasing it on Steam Early Access in 2022, albeit with ongoing improvements to enhance the player experience.

Looking Ahead: Neonexus Wars

Inspired by the world-building process of Neonexus Wars, Gobbo Games announced their venture into the realm of roguelike deck builder strategy games, a testament to their dedication to crafting engaging experiences for players worldwide.
